Moscow Dive Center

Commercial diving, underwater - technical and salvage operations.

Serving the diving industry for 17 years

Moscow Dive Center was established in 1992 after special command of Russian State Company Podvodrechstroy′s director Klad′ko S. as a privately owned division of this organization with specialization on salvage and wrecking operations.

During first months, Moscow Dive Center conducted salvage and towing to graving-dock of motor ship Otchizna (She burnt down and sunk next to the White house in Moscow). Job was done so fast and with so high quality, that Podvodrechstroy started trusting MDC to perform different orders on underwater - technical and salvage operations under Russian ministry and Moscow government. As a result, throughout the nineties Moscow Dive Center lifted by its own efforts about 100 vessels of various displacement

The most significant salvage projects, conducted by the company were:

- salvage of icebreaking floating power station Severnoe Siyanie which blown up and sunk near town of Nadym (polar part of Russia);

- clearing of Tolyatti Bay from sunken vessels (displacement of each vessel was 5000 tones and more);

- lifting of legendary wheel motor ship Parizhskaya Communa, which was used during Second World War Stalingrad battle;

- participation (with American diving company Titan) in lifting of survey drill vessels in Mexican gulf (Texas, USA) and South America (Venezuela).

Except for salvage and lifting projects, Moscow Dive Center provided various underwater - technical and hydraulic engineering services of commercial diving. MDC participated in building of multi-purpose sag pipes all over Russian territory as well.

The most significant project in this direction was construction (together with another Podvodrechstroy subsidiary) of two threads of pipelines across Yenisei-river (the biggest river of North Asia). This place is located in a few kilometers downstream from town of Dudinka in a polar part of Russia. The river has width of 2 km, speed of current -1,5 meters per second and depths - up to 57 m. The project presented particular challenges that are common to all high Arctic construction projects.

In 1995, one of the first in Russia, MDC has mastered and applied modern technologies and materials in the field of construction. This included using additives to Russian-made concrete at underwater concreting and in repairing of variable level of hydro constructions, which highly subjected to destruction by water and ice. With employing of this technology Moscow Dive Center executed overhaul of hatchway of water-fence at a space-rocket factory named after Khrunichev, which were built in the early 30th, repair of the chamber and gates of Yauzsky hydro system constructed in the same years, and other projects.

Moscow Dive Center carries out all commercial diving operations by itself and employs its own equipment. The company has appropriate licenses and certificates on all kinds of job as well as experienced and highly skilled experts. Moscow Dive Center is ready to perform both kinds of job - inland/inshore and offshore.

Company′s fleet consists of:

- seagoing tug Academic Komarov with power of 800 hp,

- sea deep-water diving vessel Antares of type VM-535 (pride of the Center) with a deep-water diver′s bell, which allows performing underwater operations on depths up to 100 m,

- one river and one lake towboat with 300 hp capacity,

- Hungarian floating crane of 16 tons tonnage,

- barges, pontoons and other auxiliary vessels and equipment.

This allows Moscow Dive Center carrying out wide range of underwater construction (diving) and hydraulic engineering services.

Nowadays Moscow Dive Center's commercial diving services include:

- underwater inspection,

- vessels salvage and recovery operations,

- towing,

- construction, repair and maintenance of various underwater objects (including oil platforms),

- fouling removal from vessel hulks, including cleaning with cavitation technology,

- pipeline installation,

- underwater welding and cutting,

- and other kinds of services.

For conducting projects at non-navigable waters there is a mobile diving vehicle-based station, which allows to work on depths up to 60 meters, transported pontoons, giants, hydraulic dredge and other necessary machinery and equipment (including instruments for non-destructive inspection). All diving operations are performing with using of underwater television.

Because of having their own modern material and technical resources, experts who are certified according to international requirements, Moscow Dive Center was able to pass the serious examination and become the general member of International Association of Diving Contractors ADC (headquarters in USA), the first and unfortunately the only one representative from Russia and the countries of the CIS so far. At the present moment MDC takes part in construction of the Russian state port Ust'-Luga.
